PSE Power Systems and Cummins Discount Energy Purchase

CHP typically involves a reciprocating engine used to generate electricity, with several heat recovery systems to recover the heat generated by the combustion process. In simpler terms Combined heat and power (CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat from a single source.

By capturing and utilising this heat (which would otherwise be released to atmosphere), a CHP system can reach efficiencies of over 87% . A typical central power station can be as low as 30% efficient, so by having a CHP plant on-site, less fuel is used to provide an equivalent amount of energy than by conventional methods. Since greenhouse gas emissions are directly related to the amount of fuel burned, CO2 production is also reduced dramatically. CHP plants can provide steam, hot water and even cooling where an absorption chiller is used to convert exhaust gas energy to cooling. Such a combination of generating electricity, heat and cooling is known as Tri-generation.

PSE can offer CHP solutions catering for compact CHP applications ranging from 40kW to 400kW  and large scale CHP industrial applications ranging from 315kW to 2MW.
